Sail Away
Black And White Photography, Cyndie, Photography

This is a traditional sailing boat from the Baltic Sea. It’s usually about 10-metre-long. The wide-hulled sailing boat type is known as a Haffboot. The name is derived from the type of fishing gear used, known as a zeese. The sailing boat is designed for relatively protected, shallow waters. Today zeesenboote (plural) are mainly used for leisure sailing.

I met this guy a few years ago when I was at the Belgian coast in mid-October.

Oslofjorden, Norway

In Gloucester, MA every year we have a schooner festival. It’s a unique experience and I am lucky enough to be able to climb on board one of them whenever I want. This year I chose to shoot only in B&W mode on my Leica with my father’s old Leica/Schneider 21mm Super Angulon from 1963. In color this lens has a heavy magenta vignette so I tend to use it only in B&W. A couple of years ago I had a CLA done on it and the optics are stunning.

I spent last weekend bobbing up and down in a sail boat between Norway and Sweden. This lighthouse is a well know landmark in the mouth of Oslo fjord. Every year there is a race from Oslo to sail around it and back to Horten.I thought it looked quite dramatic with the rain clouds behind it while we were sailing in perfect sunshine.
