I took this image through the window of a blacksmiths shop at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration while the blacksmith was describing metal heating techniques to the other visitors.

Night Heron

I photographed this beauty at the annual birding festival on Galveston Island along the Gulf of Mexico. This Yellow-crowned Night Heron flew over and perched in a tree right in front of us. See the twig in its beak. It is breeding season and nests need maintenance.

I visited this abandoned house back in 2015 and shared several images in a post on my personal wordpress blog site. Today, I passed by the old home again and was glad to see it was still standing. The beauty of the late afternoon light streaming through the window is juxtapositioned with the neglect, decay and sad loss of a family home.
