Hundreds of years ago, this was considered the end of the world. Cape St. Vincent, the southwesternmost point of Portugal and of mainland Europe. Behind the setting sun, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, would be Virginia Beach in the US. Besides the spectacular scenery round the lighthouse, first constructed in 1520 and raising up 250 ft from the sea, it is the play of the light that is truly magic at this special place.
