brave the storm

Ten years ago I was on Helgoland for the first time. It’s an island located in the North Sea, quite remote. It takes about 2 hours to sail with the ferry to reach the island. I took this image on the last day of our stay. The next day the ferry has brought us back to the mainland. You can see, a past storm cracked the thick wall of the harbor. Now, the water can play with the remains.

modern design to solve old problems

This is also in Dresden. It’s the New Synagogue. This building was build in the same place, where the former synagogue stood, which was destroyed in 1939/1940. This new building is set up that way, that its orientation is in the direction towards Jerusalem. Unfortunately, the estate is not exactly in the right direction. So, the architect planned to build the building in layers and twist each layer a bit more, until the final layer is in the correct direction and everything inside is also in the correct direction.

This is the atrium of Casa Milà, one of the well-known buildings designed by the Catalan architect Antonio Guidi. When in Barcelona, don’t miss the masterpiece of architecture and foreseeing innovation. But, book your tickets in advance!
