Sometimes a group of objects will grab my attention.  And not just the objects, but also the light and shadow interplay with the group.  This group was on the sidewalk as part of a store display along the Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The various shapes, lines along with the light and shadow made me stop and spend time with the collection.

I took this shot an an abbey in Belgium this past autumn. I really didn’t think much of it until I got home and put it up on my screen. There are just so many contrasts and textures in this shot I just wanted to share it. What makes the shot for me is the grain in the water butt and the stone wall. The watering can just adds a little something to the shot. The ferns providing a soft framework.

A New Home

Black And White Photography, Photography, Stacy

Sunflowers in vase highlighted by sun coming through window blinds

Some of you may know that I’ve been in the process of selling my house and moving – downsizing from my suburban home of 21 years where my husband and I raised our three (now adult) children into a much smaller apartment in Washington, DC. We began this journey back in January, and last week Wednesday, we finally moved into our new home.

It’s been a grueling six months, and all the things I love to do (ahem, photography, blogging, connecting with fellow bloggers, walking, reading), have had to take a back seat. But this past Monday, the first day I was able to sleep in and relax since nothing was planned but unpacking boxes at whatever speed I chose to do it, I awoke to the sun streaming in our bedroom window and I pulled out my camera for only the second time since January. I have to admit, I was a bit rusty, tying to remember what settings I had assigned to which button. But then it all started to flow and I felt like I had reconnected with an old friend.

To all of you who have liked and commented on my Monochromia posts here and on Visual Venturing but have not received replies, my sincerest apologies. Likewise, I have missed seeing so much of all of your work. But that all begins to change as the boxes become unpacked and possessions put away. My heartfelt thanks for sticking with me.

By the way, anyone need a couch?

20140316-untitled shoot

The winters here in the frozen north are long and dark. I don’t ski so I have to think of things to occupy my mind. This is a little table top fun with my Hasselblad 203FE with the Carl Zeiss 80mm F2.8 FE mounted on an 32E extension tube. Taken on my fav black and white film Rollei 80s stand developed in Caffenol for 50 mins at 20℃ with agitation for only the first minute and then left to rest in a water bath for 49mins.

Here’s the Recipe
Make one litre
Washing soda (Stabil) 16gr/l
Vitamin C (Santa maria) 10 gr/l
Potassium Bromide 1gr/l
Instant Coffee 40gr/l
Inversions for the 1st minute and then left to stand for 49mins
Stop and fix as usual
