It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Don Simmons passed away in January 2025. I am posting these images he had sent me as a remembrance. Rest in peace Don.

Mission Mary is a small and simple one-room chapel that sits alone on the West Texas high desert. It was once part of Calera, Texas, a small town that no longer exists.
The chapel was built by Mexican-American settlers at the beginning of the last century. Calera was a poor community of about one hundred people eking out a meager living, farming and ranching the high desert. When the spring that was their water source dried up in mid-century, the little town disappeared. The abandoned chapel was restored in the early 2000s and is open daily.

One from my Car graveyard series.
I took this originally with a Nikon F4s some years ago. Last week in a moment of weakness I purchased a Lomography negative holder DigitaLIZA+ where you put your negatives in and use your own digital camera to “scan” the negative
I must say considering this was just a try-out I was impressed.I took this handheld of the little 35mm negative without my macro lens.
“Scanned” with my Nikon Z8
Converted in Capture One Pro.

My father died this week at 91 years of age. It’s been a rough few years, so it is with mixed emotions that I share this news.
What a guy he was! Even with health challenges, he typically greeted everyone with a smile and remembered the name of every friend and caregiver. He had served in the US Navy for 30 years (and was also a Penn State Grad), and if you’d like, you can read about his life and career in this short obituary.
He will be dearly missed by so very many, including my mother Cindy, his wife of 67 years, my sisters Liz and Suzanne, and his 7 grandchildren (with his first great grandchild due to be born in 8 days!).
More of my images can be seen on my own blog.
