The waterfalls and thick forests of the Pacific Northwest have a way of reminding me where we came from.  It’s like sections were left as they were in the time of dinosaurs, or Sleestack if you are an old TV buff.  Thick mist hangs in the air encouraging the green moss to take over anything not moving.  This spot is below the popular Panther Creek Falls.  While there is a viewing platform at the top, you have to climb down two levels to see this beauty.

The impressive “Avenue of Oaks” said to have been planted in 1743, is a natural corridor of moss draped southern Live Oak trees, that warmly welcomes you as one drives up to the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant in Charleston, South Carolina.
With earliest known references going back to the 1680’s Boone Hall Plantation is open to the public and regarded as being an active plantation for over 320 years. My first encounter with this plantation was 10 years ago watching North and South the popular Civil War based mini series featuring the late Patrick Swayze in which the mansion and the grounds were used extensively. Last week I was able to visit the Plantation while on vacation to three Southern States, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia.

The Truth Is Out There

OK, you must be wondering why the title- the tagline to the opening credits of The X Files. That’s simple. This abandoned home was less than a mile away from one of the gates to Area 51. And believe me, this was the most interesting thing we saw that day. Oh there were a couple dozen cows that stared at us as if we were aliens. And the weather changed drastically from a beautiful sunny day to thunder and lightning and hail, then back again. Other than that, nothing. No aliens, no alien space ships, no military presence, no men in black. We’ve been back 3 times within two weeks and there will be more photos in the weeks to come.
