This dredge is a part of the copper mining history of the Keweenaw Peninsula. It’s currently sunk in shallow water in Torch Lake. It was constructed to reclaim stamping sand from the lake for further processing of copper, and was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1978.

Captured while walking along the waterfront in Chicago on a rainy day.
I was carrying a Canon 5D Mk4 that day and it never came out of the bag due to the rain. This was with an iPhone 16 Pro. I also discovered that I need a new rain jacket as my current one did not keep me dry.

Soaring
A woman sits in the doorway of her house in a Nubian village on the banks of the Nile in Upper Egypt. Wearing a light-colored traditional dress and headscarf, she holds a glass in her hands and enjoys a moment of silent observations. The photograph was made using the available late afternoon light, with sunlight falling across her face and clothing while the interior behind her remains in shadow. Shooting in monochrome was the easy choice to emphasize the contrast between light and dark, drawing attention to her expression and the everyday scene of village life.

While on a rainy day trip to downtown Chicago on the Metra, I grabbed a photo out the wet window of the train of the structure in the background. The timing of the shot also captured the rail crossing which added a starting point and leading line to the buildings in the distance.
