Cowboy Up!
Black And White Photography, PhotographyCowboy Up! Believe it or not you can find cowboys in L.A. A ranch hand relaxes after a hard day’s work at Sunset Ranch Hollywood. Out of Sunset Ranch Hollywood you can take horseback tours through Griffith Park with a view of the Hollywood sign.

This image has appeared twice already- on November 5 and just this past Sunday, November 9 as part of Robyn G’s One Four Challenge– one image processed 4 different ways and posted, one each week through November. As soon as I chose the image I sat down and did 6 different takes on it. I like the b & w version so thought I’d use it here. Joe, I hope you don’t mind!

Black And White Photography, PhotographySkin & Blister
Black And White Photography, David, PhotographyFirstly let me explain the title for those not in the know. “Skin and Blister” is Cockney rhyming slang for Sister. Meet my Big sister Eunice.
I find you have to work at getting a relaxed shot of people even if it’s people you know well. This time I think I nailed it. There was lots of light from behind streaming through the windows of the café. I took the camera and metered away from the light . As it turnrd out I got the shot I wanted 1st time . The lightmeter on my Leica maybe a simple centre weighted type but if you know how to use it it’s easy to adjust for such scenes..
Try some portraits this weekend. If you are shy ask people you know to pose for you. Have a great weekend

Idle
Black And White Photography, Laurie, PhotographyThe leaves continue to fall, and then to whirl around my carport, never idle. Meanwhile, my much loved bike has not moved in over a week. My camera too, has not seen much action.
How does life get in the way of things that we love?
Each morning I walk by and feel regret … but also hope … soon I will feel the wind in my face and the camera in my hand.
Fishing at Pier 7
Black And White Photography, Photography
Nikon D7100, 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6 lens @ 48mm, 1/320sec @ f/6.3, ISO 400
The morning after my sunset photo shoot in San Francisco, I was up bright and early to spend the day exploring the city on foot. I began at Pier 1 on the Embarcadero, meandered through the area around Fisherman’s Wharf to Ghirardelli Square (where I enjoyed a salted caramel sundae thankyouverymuch), and ended up an hour before sunset on the Municipal Pier at Aquatic Park with its sweeping views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. I don’t know how far I walked, but the stars were shining when I finally made my way back on my last legs to the Wharf in search of a taxi. To the driver who rescued me, I am forever grateful. To this fisherman at Pier 7, thanks for the great photo op!
