After nearly ninety-five years these hands are getting a rest. They’ve worked hard on a farm, in an apple orchard, at a typewriter, fixed up many houses and so much more. They have earned their rest.

A brief moment by the lake before the cool breeze pushed back, then the moment was gone. But, for that moment, an opportunity to commune with the Great Lake, to listen to the song of the waves, to be touched by fingers of wind as they move through her hair. How many more of these moments exist for her, for any of us?

It seems that we live in a time where we are screaming at one another rather than talking to each other. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all slow down, look at those around us and carry on a conversation that was meaningful, instead of one filled with anger and rage. To just stop and meet others face to face, to share our hopes and fears. Perhaps to change our fears into hope. Wouldn’t it be nice…?

It was a dark and gloomy night, the air thick like soup. The lights carved a path out onto the pier, guiding my steps to a destination lost in the fog…

Another image shot on my Nikon FM for a film class. I found this old tractor seemingly abandoned in between corn fields. Such a shame for this classic to be wasting away in a field, as though it had been put out to pasture.

In June of 2012, Duluth experienced a rainstorm that was one of those “once in a hundred year” events. My basement ended up with several inches of water which damaged some my photography equipment, including the telephoto for my Nikon FM film camera. It had a fine coating of silt that would have cost more to repair that the lens was worth. But, rather than throw it out, I decided to shoot a roll of film with it and see what would happen. As you can see from the image, it adds a slight gauzy effect, making the scene sort of dreamlike. Although I don’t shoot film as often as I used to, I plan to keep the lens in my bag and think of it under the right circumstances.
