I want to get serious for a moment and describe what happened to me over the weekend. We were out taking photos and I found a deserted barn. I went inside and started to set up, checking out angles and lighting and found a spot that was perfect for what I wanted to capture. I brought the camera up to my eye and, at that moment, another photographer entered into my field of vision, started moving objects around to better create his “image”, and completely ignored me. What? Have you no respect for others? Are you so self absorbed that you do not see anybody else? Do you make a habit of walking into someone else’s shot whenever you like? These are rhetorical questions but, people, please be aware of your surroundings. Your photo is no more important than mine and will wait for you. Be respectful of others, be aware of your surroundings. A few weekends ago I was out taking landscape photos and walked towards a deserted house. As I was walking, a car pulled up and I stopped to wait while the woman took a photo with her phone, then waved to me, and backed up her car. I took my few shots from different angles and distances and, when I left, she was down the road a bit waiting for me to finish up. Respect is always reciprocal.

Susan Cain is the author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. How does this pertain to the image above? Simple. A close friend and I took a recent trip to Napa County. California wine country. This is the exterior to one of the tasting rooms we stopped at. Actually, we started out from Las Vegas with our wives who decided to stay in San Francisco rather than join us for the day. I admit I did have a different quote I was going to use but when I saw this one I said to myself, “that’s me”! It’s also Chris and Cee at their respective blogs 61 Musings and Cee’s Photography. It’s also, probably, a lot of other people who might even be reading this right about now.

A boy runs in the surf during the golden hour at the beach in Santa Monica. While the rest of the country is busy shoveling snow and trying to keep warm, those of us in SoCal are suffering through a drought and unseasonably warm weather. And by suffering I mean enjoying playing in the surf in late November.
