On the way to Denmark on a dull and heavily overcast morning. The sun breaks through for a few moments just to let us know it’s still there.

The beginning of March brought a trip to southern California and a return to Santa Monica Pier. Arguably cooler than my summer trip, hardy souls still populated the beach while others were content to simply enjoy the scenery and storm-like clouds from afar.

A last look at it, the stable has to move & the wheels are falling to pieces …

I used natural light to capture this decaying tulip. I chose the settings to capture detail of the tulip petals and leaves.
As many of you know I do a lot of work with flowers and the history and language of flowers. Tulips have various meanings, which I have included in the poem below, written to accompany the above image. I hope you enjoy both the image and the poem. You can find many more of my floral images and poetry on my personal blog: Robyn Graham Photography.
Beautiful Eyes
Beautiful eyes,
Of my faultless lover,
I look into your depths
And feel my soul,
A soul famed of imperfection,
Guarding a declaration
Of unparalleled desire.
Oh beautiful eyes,
Be mine.
Humble my longing
With a smile
And return my desire,
Share with me the fondness
Of a love unequaled.

I spent my New Year by the sea and walked during a long time on the beach.
It was so pleasant !
Oh chère mer,
Vois-tu le trou béant ?
Oui, là où se trouvait mon cœur.
Il n’y reste qu’un goût amer,
Laissé par mon tendre Océan,
Qui s’en est allé, me voila en pleure.
Oh dear sea
You see the gaping hole?
Yes, where my heart was.
There remains a bitter taste
Leave by my tender Ocean
Who is gone, here me crying.
“Many people believe that introversion is about being antisocial, and that’s really a misperception. Because actually it’s just that introverts are differently social. So they would prefer to have a glass of wine with a close friend as opposed to going to a loud party full of strangers.” ~ Susan Cain
Susan Cain is the author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. How does this pertain to the image above? Simple. A close friend and I took a recent trip to Napa County. California wine country. This is the exterior to one of the tasting rooms we stopped at. Actually, we started out from Las Vegas with our wives who decided to stay in San Francisco rather than join us for the day. I admit I did have a different quote I was going to use but when I saw this one I said to myself, “that’s me”! It’s also Chris and Cee at their respective blogs 61 Musings and Cee’s Photography. It’s also, probably, a lot of other people who might even be reading this right about now.
Not all the treasures in the Louvre Museum in Paris are sculptures or paintings or jewels. This scene — an alcoved archway framing the famous Louvre Pyramid (and one of the three smaller pyramids in the main courtyard) against the backdrop of the palace’s Richelieu Wing — took my breath away. C’est magnifique!
