New York City is known for Broadway, but a new tourist attraction brings theatre to the streets!
Walking down 7th Avenue, just south of Central Park, I managed to catch two musicians serenading the tourists on this spectacular bus. “The Ride” is a theatrical tour of Times Square and midtown Manhattan. Riders on these multi-million dollar buses, in stadium seats that face outwards, have no idea who on the streets are part of the tour. From the website: “THE RIDE is a one-of-a-kind interactive entertainment experience where the streets of New York City are the stage, and you’ve got front row seats!” For a theatre lover like me, this seems like a fantastic way to see New York City landmarks in a whole new way!

Subway, New York CityI was struck by the wistfulness of this young woman and would have been happy simply capturing her. But then I saw the larger scene – the busyness of the couple to her right, clearly on a schedule – and loved the contrast. I just had to push the shutter.

Pismo Beach, CaliforniaI must admit I left my husband at the dinner table to run out and capture the sun’s last hurrah as it set over the Pacific Ocean. (No worries – I did have his blessing.) Alas, the sun moved more quickly than I did, and without many clouds in the sky there wasn’t a great deal of color, but I thought the scene worked beautifully in black and white. Hope you agree!

Entrance Hall, The National September 11 Memorial Museum at the World Trade Center, New York CityI visited the 9/11 Museum last December, and it has taken me until now to want to post my photos. It seems fitting, on this 14th anniversary of that horrific day.
This is the tableau that greets visitors as they descend from the Entrance Hall to the Concourse Lobby and beginning of the exhibition. On the left stands the World Trade Center tridents, a signature architectural element from the base of the Twin Towers, which were once part of the facade of the south tower. The juxtaposition of the photograph and the tridents is a sobering reminder of what happened and of what lies ahead in the exhibit.

Times Square, 11:00 PMOh, how I waited to get this shot. Waited for the vendor to be visible despite the enveloping steam from his food truck. Waited for the scrolling messages on his electronic sign to display my favorite one. Many times I had one, but not the other. The magic was in capturing the two together.
