Into the night

This picture was by pure chance, it was late at night, totaly dark in a mountainous area (Bird´s mountains, right in the middle of Germany http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vogelsberg_Mountains),

A friend of mine who was driving came around the curve and I saw these reflective lines and traffic posts. Suddenly I shouted to my friend “Stop, I have to take a picture”.
We were on the road in the darkness for hours but until this moment when we went around the curve I have never seen this. There was a little bit more ambient light, but this is more like what I had envisioned in my mind when I shouted “Stop”.

More of my images can be seen

Here and Now

Walking barefoot on the grass and catching up with dear friends after a long time. Enjoying the atmosphere of the countryside and watching the sun slowly disappear behind the fields. Driving back home late at night and feeling sweet happiness in my heart.

Brent Mail is a professional photographer from Australia who recently interviewed Cole Thompson, a fine art photographer from the United States. It is a great interview. Please go take a peek! Among many of the things he said that resonated with me concerns the Rule Of Thirds:

“I have my own “Rule of Thirds”. (I don’t like Rules of Photography so I make up my own).

My Rule of Thirds says a great image is comprised of one-third vision, one-third the shot, and one-third processing.

The vision is what drives the other two-thirds.

It drives the shot because when I know what I want the final image to look like, that directs how I capture the image.

Likewise with the processing, which is where I do the majority of the creative work on the image, the vision drives it.”

Get used to his name. Cole Thompson. I expect to be quoting more of his interview from time to time!

On the Beach

What I love about photography is that it allows me to explore plenty of places I would not have had any reason to go earlier. When I go with my camera, the place where I go does not really matter because I know for sure I’ll find interesting things to photograph. It seems the more I’m heading nowhere, the more chances I have to find interesting things.

Here I found an old tractor on a beach. I do not really know what a tractor is doing on a beach, but I found it quite interesting.

Surfin’ USA

“Nope!”

“Why not?”

“Too cold.”

“You’re joking, right?”

“Nope.”

“That’s like a Vapor wetsuit.”

“Right? Five hundred dollars!”

“That should keep you warm.”

“You think? I’m dying in it.”

“So go on in.”

“You’re joking! And ruin the look?”

“The look?”

“Chicks dig the look. I haven’t been in the ocean in about 3 years. I just stand at the edge of the water and wait. Never go home alone.”

“Dude, you’re giving us real surfers a bad name.”
