This unique old barn was found on the back roads of Watauga County near Sweetwater, North Carolina. The stone foundation supports one side of the barn’s placement on the edge of a hill. The vine consuming the façade appeared to have died, leaving a thick, craggily branching structure attached to the barn. This is from my North Carolina mountains visit last October, the composition was processed shortly after and ready to publish, but was forgotten. Fortunately, I found it while planning my 2021 trip – coming up next week. It was captured from the Fryingpan Mountain Lookout Tower near Pisgah Mountain on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The tower’s stairwell was blocked at the base, but I was able to squeeze through and overcome my fear of heights to climb to just under the top platform. I was rewarded with an amazing South Fork Mills River Valley landscape and dramatic light!
