The town of Grafton is currently under renovation, which is removing all the authenticity that an historic ruin reflects. Still, there is the Grafton cemetery just outside of town that is the final resting place for a few dozen inhabitants of the time. The remaining buildings of the Grafton ghost town are a mix of authentic pioneer era structures and modern-built “period” movie sets constructed for the 1969 classic “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. These buildings are clearly recognizable to fans of the movie. All are located on private property, and trespassing will likely bring a quick visit from a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy. You know how I like to give credit to my wife whenever she tells me to wait for sunset or for the lighting to change or when she points out a picture she wants me to take? Well, she had nothing to do with this one. I was coming out of the gym after my morning workout and there was this 57 Chevy up against the far wall of the parking lot. All by itself. There was a small note on the windshield that said “Look and enjoy but please do not touch. So I didn’t. I just took about 10 photos from different angles but this one was my favorite. When you’re done, please go look at the color version at Photos By Emilio. It still needs a bit of work but I’m pretty proud of the processing! Let me know what you think.

“And then I went to visit my sister in the states and all of a sudden it was just like, it’s like… it’s like the movie Wizard of Oz when all of a sudden it changes from Black and White to glorious Technicolor.” ~~ John Mahoney, actor
For some reason, this image reminded me of The Wizard Of Oz, hence the title and quote.
Please visit Photos By Emilio for the color version that looks nothing like Oz! Or Kansas!

There are so many small towns you pass through in southern Utah. I believe this was Parowan, due north of Brian Head and Zion. What attracted me enough to stop were the colors. So why post in black and white? Because I think it works just as well in monochrome. But, please, visit Photos By Emilio and you can decide for yourself. Color? Or Monochromia!

“If someone as blessed as I am is not willing to clean out the barn, who will?” ~~ Ross Perot
This is in honor of my friend Teri, whom I’ve never met! But I enjoy her photography. That has to count for something. She posted an image of a red barn last week. I liked her red barn. This is my response. My homage. I did not have a red barn so I made it black and white. Use your imagination. Then go visit her site. Then go visit my site to see what color this black and white red barn really is.
