To reach the top of Hawksbill Mountain, you must accomplish a 50-minute moderate to strenuous hike from the service road.  As you yield the trail to hikers on their way down, you often hear ‘it’s worth the effort’.  And indeed, once you complete your ascent, you are awarded with a spectacular view of Linville Gorge.

Taken in mid-October, the peak fall foliage was still a week or so away.  Even with some moderate foliage color, this image seemed to work better in monochrome.

Cheers,

Sam

I hiked to the top of Linville Gorge about an hour before sunset during my fall color expedition earlier this month. Of course there were just as many monochrome opportunities!
