We had a day trip to Whitby and wouldn’t you know it there was a Steampunk gathering. There were so many it was difficult to know where to start. However these guys wanted to be photographed so it wasn’t that hard to get some great shots of some very friendly people.

I visited a local Jazz festival. I was trying to avoid the rain and not doing too well when I spotted these guys watching a band. The contrasts in this shot caught my eye. This shot is in black and white, you can see there are more contrasts at work here.

One of the things we did on our holiday was to take the steam train on the North Yorkshire moors railway. It runs from Pickering to Whitby. It stops at 6 stations. We had had a long day in Whitby and I was a bit tired, I nearly didn’t make the effort to get off and take this shot. I’m glad I did. It’s so atmospheric and typical of a bygone age.

Before I actually get into this picture I would like to express my thanks to Joe. Joe owns this site. One day we’ll have a pint or two together. Just before I left for my annual holidays my old iMac finally gave up the ghost. I wrote and explained this to Joe – I prefer to do all my editing on a desktop. Joe took it all in his stride and found a very capable replacement for me while I haven’t been posting. So a big thank-you to Jane Laurie for filling in for me.
I’ll start with one of my favourite pictures from my holiday, a portrait of a very good mate taken on a very wet day at the Blue Bell Pub in York (It’s the UK’s smallest Pub).
Dave loves a “Pie and a Pint” as do I. We sat out of the rain enjoying ourselves for an hour or so. I took this while sitting there and I think it shows Dave’s fun loving nature.

My wife and I attended a local exhibition by a known (Maybe not so well) by Lul Krag(1878-1956). As she drew and painted in charcoal and black ink this shot could have made it onto this page without me adjusting it. However I have done a straight conversion and only added the frame this is straight out of the camera (…well almost).

I took this at an old derelict hospital not far from my home. It has been sealed off and emptied in the past few years, and is no longer so much fun to photograph.

…last week you asked me to keep my junkyard shots coming. However I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share with you my other passion. Cycling.
Last Saturday the annual Tour of Norway passed even closer to my doorstep than it did last year. Here they are speeding over our local bridge ( 5mins walk from my house).What makes the shot for me is the two spectators on the railings on the opposite side of the road. The sky was dark and foreboding too as it had threatened a downpour all afternoon. Still I got home before the heavens opened.
…and Joe I promise to look out some more junkyard shots for you very soon.
