Human-made structures come in all shapes and sizes. This collection in Bogota Colombia is just one example of human creativity.

This shack is famous along the north shore of Lake Superior. I’m sure it has been photographed hundreds, if not thousands of times. I know I have captured it in various lighting conditions, different seasons and a very strange close-up of the window on the door. It involved flies and a reflection of my hands. If you are ever on the north shore, head up the scenic highway and look for a street sign for Stoney Point Rd. Besides the shack, there is also some great ledge rock that, under the right wind conditions, can produce some fantastic waves that crash against the rocks. It’s also a popular spot for surfers. That’s right, I said surfers. You would be surprised by how many surfers live around here and surf the inland sea.

This is an image from several years ago when I was able to spend a few hours in New York. I did my best to take advantage of every minute I was there. I had five hours from the time I got off the train at Penn Station and had to be back on the train to catch a flight out of Newark. I managed to visit the Empire State Building, Times Square, Central Park and Rockefeller Center. I realize I barely scratched the surface and know I will be returning someday.

There’s something magical about playing with reflections. When I took this photo, I knew I would be manipulating it to get this effect and I’m very pleased with the end result. For me, the combination of the reflection of the statue and the grid work of the conservatory roof plus the texture of the bubbling water all come together to make the image successful.

One of the apps on my iPhone is meant for HDR, however I have learned that if I move the phone while it is capturing the three shots for bracketing, it provides a multiple exposure effect. One never knows what will happen. In this instance, we are standing at the edge of a lake with waves crashing over our feet as I captured the three images. Other than a bit of clean-up in Adobe Lightroom, it is what it is.

After a fire swept the island on Seagull Lake, located in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, these spirits seem to be rising out of the stoney ground to take flight across the sky.

I love this shot of my grandson walking ahead of us along the pier, his posture alluding to a thoughtful frame of mind. Also, there are the leading lines created by the late afternoon sun, the geometry of the pier and a relatively calm Lake Superior.

Standing against the rhythms of nature, a lone sentinel braves the actions of the inland sea.
