To reach the top of Hawksbill Mountain, you must accomplish a 50-minute moderate to strenuous hike from the service road.  As you yield the trail to hikers on their way down, you often hear ‘it’s worth the effort’.  And indeed, once you complete your ascent, you are awarded with a spectacular view of Linville Gorge.

Taken in mid-October, the peak fall foliage was still a week or so away.  Even with some moderate foliage color, this image seemed to work better in monochrome.

This pastural landscape was captured in rural Ashe County, near Apple Grove.  The pasture is surrounded by numerous Christmas tree farms.

Located in the Piazza Venezia or Venice Square in Rome, the Palazzo Venezia building was commissioned by the Venetian Cardinal Pietro Barbo, who later became Pope Paul II. The building was designed by the architect Francesco del Borgo. He started its construction in 1455.  At that time Palazzo Venezia served as Embassy of the Republic of Venice, and was used by the Austrian ambassador. The Italian government took over the palace during the First World War. Today Palazzo Venezia is a museum of Medieval and Renaissance art, Museo di Palazzo.
