When I took this photo while on my bike trip to Delaware in 2013, I didn’t pay attention to the date. When I shared this image on Life in Black & White, another photographer noted that James was so close to surviving the war. He’d almost made it.
That made this image even more poignant for me.
Another trip down Paris memory lane. Rue Chanoinesse is a welcome respite from the tourist-packed Notre Dame, only a block away but feeling worlds apart. We stumbled upon it after enjoying some time in a cafe overlooking the Pont Saint-Louis and Notre Dame.

“Tell me I’m clever, Tell me I’m kind, Tell me I’m talented, Tell me I’m cute, Tell me I’m sensitive, Graceful and wise, Tell me I’m perfect – But tell me the truth.”
– Shel Silverstein
This image was shot in my studio after a marketing and business session with 60+ women entrepreneurs in attendance. The vase and flower were part of the decorations that adorned the studio for the event. I used natural light and then processed the image in Topaz BW Suite. Once converted to black and white I added a layer of haze to give it more of a soft, dreamy feel.
