Burano, Italy is known for its colorful homes and buildings. But it can be equally intriguing in monochrome. This view is along the Fondamenta della Pescheria Canal. The Church of Saint Martin Bishop tower is in the background. See more of my photos from my Burano and Murano gallery.
Opened in 1941, the Main St. Bridge crosses the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. It was renamed in 1957 after former Mayor John T. Alsop and remains a feature of the Jacksonville skyline. The center span lifts to allow large boats to pass under. I shot this at 170mm to achieve a compressed architectural abstract feel. I visited this abandoned house back in 2015 and shared several images in a post on my personal wordpress blog site. Today, I passed by the old home again and was glad to see it was still standing. The beauty of the late afternoon light streaming through the window is juxtapositioned with the neglect, decay and sad loss of a family home.
Cheers,
C. S.
