Thank you Charly 😊 I think the 55 through 57 model years of Chevy and Ford were the best looking years. I had a 56 Chevy back in the day and it always drove the new gas attendants crazy because the gas filler was behind one of the tail lights which swung to the side to reveal it. And yes that was a time when attendants pumped the gasoline and checked the oil level in your engine.
One of my dreams, which never came true, was to own a Ford Mustang Shelby GT. The gas mileage of that beast was simply impossible for me. But what a beautiful car! 😅
In my opinion the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-500 was the best looking car of all time and the 428 cubic inch Ford Cobra Jet engine was a beast. The Ford 427, 428CJ and Boss 429 cubic inch engines were actually factory rated at much less horsepower than they developed due to insurance company rates. The higher the horsepower the higher the insurance premium was. Back in 1969 I started working for a local Ford dealership and although a Shelby never came through that dealership I still had plenty of fun working on and test driving some Boss 429 Mustangs and 428 Cobra Jet Torino’s. I worked there until 1975 before moving on to another shop but those years were some fun times.
I’m genuinely envious of your experiences with those magnificent cars, which in my country were a true luxury, beyond the reach of the working class. You’re a lucky guy, my friend! 😉
Thank you Charly but if I had to do it all over again I would have chosen a different career path because it destroyed my hands and my back. When I watch technicians at dealerships these days they have specialized gloves to protect their hands and it looks like they never have any oil or grease on their uniforms. Besides I would have rather lived in your country and enjoyed beautiful weather 😁
Nobody’s ever happy with what they have, so thanks for reminding me that even though I didn’t get to enjoy those fabulous American sports cars, many other things were beautiful. That’s a very stoic thought… 😌
Thank you Laurie 😊 The sleeker the new cars get the worse the visibility gets not to mention the harder it gets for an old fart like me to clean the inside of those heavily sloped windows 😂
