Silhouettes against Central Park fountain

Those of you who are familiar with Visual Venturing may recognize this photo from a while back. Being on the road this week, I thought it would be okay to revisit one of my favorites. I took this in Central Park while on a trip to New York City in September 2012.

I would like to say I planned every aspect of this shot, but I have to be honest: I was focused on capturing the young men silhouetted against the fountain and I had to fire off a quick burst of photos before they walked out of the frame. I was definitely surprised (and delighted) when I opened the file on my computer to find what else I had managed to capture. Had I tried to purposefully frame this shot, I doubt I would have been as successful. Have fun discovering the “extras”!

  2. Nice shot, Stacy! Pretty funny that you posted an earlier shot of the Bethesda Fountain on the same exact day I was there photographing it myself. Always so much going on there. Last Friday, there was a wedding shoot, a pretty good guitar player, two fashion shoots, and a couple of “Bubble Men” creating monster soap bubbles to the delight of the kids.

  3. I like this shot a lot. It has some of my favourite aspects – silhouettes and frames that direct the eye. I would’ve liked to have seen the head of the statue, but I know it’s difficult to capture everything in a quick shot.

  6. So! You found the formal photo shoot with photographer and assistant, the two guys dancing (at least I think that’s what they are doing), and the woman taking a photo of ….. you? Then of course the main reason for the shot, the silhouette. Great shot!! And fun, too

  9. I remember the fountain in quite a bit of disrepair around 1995, maybe later. Our family had visited the city from Long Island on a weekend outing and I just remember everything being so big. And noisy. Glad to see it is being enjoyed lately. Love the shot and the contrast between the guys in silhouette and the people around the fountain.

      1. Funny, I never heard that term. But I do remember walking down the street with my parents. I had an ice cream cone and some older woman walking past us felt free to dip her finger into it for a taste. “Zoo”, indeed!

  11. Great image of a very beautiful part of Central Park Stacy. Your timing was perfect on this šŸ™‚ My wife and I are very familiar with this part of the park “Bethesda Fountain” along with “Strawberry Fields” šŸ™‚ Great job.
