This old drum kit was left here in the music room of the school at Pyramiden. Kind of sad.

We were lucky enough to visit Pyramiden on Svalbard a mining ghost town (Almost, population 5) It’s a Russian coal mining town from 1910. It’s the kind of place that you could spend a life time photographing, I had 2 hours and our group was accompanied everywhere by an armed guard. On the way from the boat I saw this pair I just had to stop and shot a couple of pictures. The light in the late afternoon was magical.

Still in Svalbard. We were on a boat trip to an old Russian mining community, Pyramiden. Our boat was picked out to help with an exercise of new crew on the helicopter. People were winched up and down to the helicopter from the deck of our boat, amazing if not a little noisy to watch.

This shot I took in Svalbard at Mine number 3 it was a working coal mine between 1971-November 1996. All the equipment was just left were it was. Everyone left in the middle of a shift.
Here you see part of the workshop, plans and half built constructions were everywhere. With such poor lighting and not wanting to use flash I used natural light streaming though a very dirty window.

I was lucky enough to spend 5 days on Svalbard recently and that kind of polished my poor landscape genre a little. This I took on my last day there. It had already started to snow and the local mountains already had a good coating of the white stuff.

Down by the sea in Whitby I came across this building. To me it kind of looks like a Minion. At least I think so.

I have a love hate relationship with landscapes. I love other peoples, my own efforts I always find somewhat lacking. However I offer you dear reader, this example. I took it while on a walk on the North Yorkshire Moors. It had just stopped raining so the clouds were quite dramatic I thought.

Yet another nice couple in Whitby. This time I disturbed them in the middle of their tea and cake.

…I met while wondering around Whitby abbey. Dracula enthusiasts will know that Bram Stokers book is based around the Abbey and Whitby’s environs. In fact I was waiting for a Dracula play to start when this wonderful couple walked passed me. I couldn’t pass up the temptation to ask them to get in front of my lens.

More of these wonderful Steampunk enthusiasts in Whitby. They really were some fun loving people.
