Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

Icy Morning on the Ledge Rock

It takes a bit of navigating to move about safely on the ice covered ledge rock of Lake Superior.

So Quiet

Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

It’s amazing how fresh snow acts like sound insulation in the forest. Not to mention it’s beautiful.

Icy Designs

On the morning I went out to shoot some photos of ice, I slipped on ice next to my truck as I was loading my camera bag. I landed on my stainless steel coffee mug, which hit me right around the left kidney. Ouch! I managed to make out and grab a few shots before going home to recover with an ice pack.

Burning Water

Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

It may seem that the water is steaming, and it sort of is. When Lake Superior is warmer than the air above it, you get sea smoke. It was -5 F (-15 C) the morning I captured this image.

Hiding in the Mist

When the temps drop below zero on Lake Superior we get sea smoke. On this particular morning, I was lucky enough to catch a ship appearing out of the smoke on its way to load wheat in the Duluth Harbor.
