Jousting they say was a sport of Kings. Today, the knights of the realm in the Shire reenact the sport for entertainment each year at the Renaissance Faire at Tuxedo Park, New York.
I am enthralled each year by the color and the personalities I encounter here with my camera. A colorful feast for the eyes and an entertaining day out with my wife.

Amish Horsepower

One of my favorite holiday destinations to getaway from the hubbub of New York life has turned out to be Lancaster, Pennsylvania a few hours drive from home. The Amish are a fascinating group of people who have somehow persisted and resisted the advances of modern day and still live like it used to be. While they do not fancy posing for photographs my recent visit armed with a 600mm lens helped capture this image from a distance.

A walk in the park
Another photo taken at one of my favorite locations, The Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, at Central Park, Manhattan. There is always so much going on amidst nature and architecture. This couple was having a photo shoot done here and I happen to be there ready with my camera. So why not?

Dawn, by the Galle Lighthouse – Sri Lanka
Having driven down to the Historic, former Dutch, Galle Fort to a rain storm the previous night I was adamant to get some photographs under my belt before the rest of the group were awake and found the perfect spot to capture this sunrise

I have been intrigued with Japanese Gardens and now convinced that I will create one, of course in a much smaller scale, on one side of our home. This Shinto Shrine can be seen overlooking the beautifully landscaped Japanese Hill and Pond Garden at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Constructed a century ago way back in 1914, it happens to be the first Japanese Garden to be created in an American public space.
Sri Lankan Leopard

Classified as endangered, these magnificent cats can be still seen in the wild in Sri Lanka with an estimated population of no more than 250. This particular cat was photographed by me almost a year ago at the Pinnawela Open Air Zoo in Sri Lanka on a typical hot humid day.
Bethesda Terrace And Fountain

Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Central Park, New York
One of my favorite places in all of New York is the Bethesda Terrace overlooking the Bethesda Fountain and its Angel of the waters statue unveiled in 1873, a good century before I was born. A must visit in my book for anyone visiting this part of the world leave alone a joy for the photo enthusiast.
Guest Post – Alaka Jayasekara
Alakajay, Black And White Photography, PhotographyTribute in Lights
My name is Alaka Jayasekara and my romance with monochrome photography goes hand in glove with my passion for all things old, from history to antiques and the mysteries of the past. Having grown up in the historical city of Kandy, the hill capital of the Island of Serendib (aka Ceylon aka Sri Lanka) also the city of my birth, an appreciation for culture and history likely runs in my blood.
Like one hears better with eyes closed so almost is a monochrome photograph devoid of distracting color but attention now to the content, context and light. Light being an important factor in photography makes more sense to me specially when I factor in that my name means light.
Having hopped from one Island to the next, Long Island has been home for me the last decade where I now live with my wife and four furry friends.
