Garrison Keillor always talked about the magic of Lake Superior. There’s something special about sitting by the inland sea that calms the spirit and soothes the nerves. On this day the lake was being gentle, however, there are those days when she gets agitated and tends to make a bit of a mess of the shore.

While visiting Gooseberry Falls recently, I discovered this unique vantage point where the cedar trees were framing the waterfall.

Gathering Spot

No place to go when you reach the end of the canyon at Starved Rock State Park in Illinois.

I’m sure it would be more interesting if there were water flowing over the cliff.

The Road Ahead

Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

This image is a bit of a metaphor for what lies ahead for my life. I’m in the process of selling my home, ridding myself of extra baggage, determining what to store and what I need for the road I will be traveling. After two years of learning about RV living, I’m selling my “training wheels”, a smaller travel trailer and preparing to move into a larger trailer full time. On the plus side, I will be opening my photographic eye to many new vistas and you can be sure I will be sharing them with all of you.

The Ghost of Winter

Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

The snow has melted, the ground is thawing and the ghost of winter is released from the frozen earth.

An experimental piece done using the multiple exposure setting in camera and processed in Silver Efex Pro.

The Beauty of a Starry Night

Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

Every time I get the chance to enjoy the dark skies of northern Minnesota, I think of those who have never been away from a light island and experienced the incredible sight of a sky full of stars. This image was captured on a night when I was hoping to see the aurora above Lake Superior. The aurora did not make an appearance but, the stars more than made up for its absence.

In Motion

Black And White Photography, David Jensen, Photography

Spring is springing, snow is melting and rain has been falling. All of which means, that water is in motion.
