The abandoned I 94 Cafe, located just off the interstate, somewhere near Bismark, North Dakota.  I’ve been spending a lot of time driving around North Dakota lately, but haven’t had the time to stop and capture many of the sights that have caught my eye.  I’m planning to take a week or so next year and explore northwestern Minnesota and the Dakota’s at harvest time when there are so many opportunities for contrasting colors.  I also discovered that due to the flat nature of the area, the sunsets last much longer than they do in the part of Minnesota I live in.

The background fades away, sounds seems distant and thoughts drift on a gentle breeze.

End of the Line

End_of_Line

For several years I’ve been driving past this bus parked in the trees along Highway 23 outside of Duluth and finally stopped to captured a few photos.  Timing was important as I wanted to get the photos in the morning when the sun was at the correct angle to light the bus just right.  That meant being out somewhat early; this image was captured at 7:21AM.

Canon 5Ds, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8, ISo 50, 85mm, f/8.0, 1/60th sec.  B&W conversion done in Silver Efex Pro 2.

Image captured at a monument in Colombia in December of 2013.  I chose to add touches that gave the image an ethereal feel.

What started out as a photo of the reflection in the mirror, became something totally different.  Edges began to blur, light became liquid and reality was open to interpretation.

Camera: unknown, original settings: unknown, artistic effects done in Photoshop, further tweaking in Silver Efex Pro 2 and finished in Lightroom CC Classic.
