Times Square, 11:00 PMOh, how I waited to get this shot. Waited for the vendor to be visible despite the enveloping steam from his food truck. Waited for the scrolling messages on his electronic sign to display my favorite one. Many times I had one, but not the other. The magic was in capturing the two together.

Looking south to Lower Manhattan
(Scheduled post) My last aerial view of lower Manhattan was from the Top of the Rock Observation Deck on the 70th floor of the GE Building in Rockefeller Center. This view is from the 86th Floor Observation Deck of the Empire State Building. In the distance is One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower); at 6:00 is the triangular Flatiron Building, bordered by Broadway on the left and 5th Avenue on the right, with Madison Square Park (at the bottom of the frame) just a block away.

Taking advantage of the last 15 minutes I had before needing to head inside Penn Station, I waited … and waited … for the perfect pedestrian to help frame this shot of the Empire State Building. And then this young woman stepped out of a taxi. It was a great way to end a great visit to NYC!
Grand Central Station in New York City is a font of photo ops (though I wish tripod use was allowed!). Spending time there with fellow Monochromians Joe Giordano and Patti Fogarty was worlds of fun. And in the midst of all my “oohing” and “aahing,” I spied this couple posing for what I figured was engagement photos. Of course, I just had to get in on the action!

King Street, Old Town, Alexandria, VirginiaConfession: I’ve always enjoyed window peeping. Walking out of the restaurant after dinner last night, I was struck by the lighted scenes in the windows, the street lamps, and the rising moon. I couldn’t resist pulling out my Fuji.

Most visitors to New York City’s Radio City Music Hall are familiar with its front entrance on 6th Avenue. Walking down the Avenue, I spotted this side entrance on 51st Street and loved the angles and lines (and the accompanying NYC cabs).
New York City’s Central Park provides some amazing views of the city that surrounds it.
This view from Victorian Gardens Amusement Park (the summer operation of the famous Wollman ice skating rink) captures the iconic and luxurious Pierre Hotel on the right, the General Motors Building in the middle (one of the few structures in Manhattan to occupy a full city block), and behind it, the 1396-foot residential tower called 432 Park Avenue.
At the time of its completion in 2014, 432 Park is the tallest residential tower in the Western Hemisphere and the third tallest building in the United States. It is the second tallest building in New York City, behind One World Trade Center, and ahead of the Empire State Building. It also boasts a $95 million penthouse!

(Color version on Visual Venturing.) While roaming the streets of New York City with Joe and Patti, we crossed paths with this fantastic billboard at 42nd Street and 7th Avenue advertising the Batman Arkham Dark Knight video game. The NYC tourist bus in front was a happy coincidence.

(Color version on Visual Venturing.) A favored Paris tourist experience is to view the city from the waters of the Seine. Here, one of the legendary “Bateaux-Mouches” sails toward scenic Pont Neuf, while the Eiffel Tower and the Institut de France beckon in the background.
And, now, for those of us old enough to remember The Kingston Trio, I can’t get this song out of my head! (If you click on the link to listen, I guarantee you’ll never think of Paris or the Seine again without humming this song 😉)
