When Joe started Monochromia, he said nothing about adding textures to photos. Though some may now argue this is not, technically, a photo, it is black and white. Monochrome. So I would like to know what others think of the technique itself. Actually, I would love to know. Please be as honest and truthful- and brutal- as you want to be. This is my own private poll and might stop me from ever using a technique like this again.
Or not!
Oh yeah, the shot was taken just last week, on a cold, crisp, and very clear night in front of the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
And if you haven’t given up on me yet, please visit Photos By Emilio every now and then to say hello. Visiting hours are 9 am to 5 pm every day of the week!

I know nothing about adding layers Emilio but I love the reflective nature of your shot!

Thanks, Patti. I’ve seen several photographers using textures and layers and wanted to play around with them. I might use them occasionally but I don’t think too often!

You are always entertaining, Emilio! Before I read your words, I was wondering if it was steam or fog overlaying the lights.

That’s exactly what I was going for. Thanks. I want to play with textures but I think back off a little. Make them more a part of the image.

I love this look, and you have brought your creative vision to the photo. And that is art!

Thanks, Angeline. I start playing with textures, then I see photos like that of http://www.photo-markus.com and want all my photos to look as crystal clear. So I never know what I’m going to end up with.

Wonderful art Emilio, I love it! 🙂 And, it’s something I’d like to try out myself. Would be a good idea for a new theme week here at Monochromia. 🙂

Thanks, Elina! I had an interesting image without the texture, I think, then just decided to experiment!

I don’t have any of the dancing bear but I do have another fun image up my sleeve!

Really like the reflective element in this. Makes it feel a hundred years old.

I like that. 100 years old. I was going for a misty look but 100 years works for me. Thanks!

Art is art Emilio no matter how it is achieved. I consider all of the images on our site art. I like the image and I like the effect. Having said that you know I had to check “your wife is very lucky to have found you” although she might take issue with that statement 🙂 Great work.

I think, with everything that’s going on right now, she’s checking “Bring on the dancing bears.” To be honest, I was working on removing the poll and the narrative late last night when it published automatically. I had decided that I liked adding textures and didn’t much care what others think. Does that mean I’m maturing? Geez, I hope not!

I don’t think males mature until they’re 80 or so because I’m 61 and I’m not mature yet 😀

I think we’ve discussed this before. According to my wife, I’m 13!
