Fishing at Pier 7

The morning after my sunset photo shoot in San Francisco, I was up bright and early to spend the day exploring the city on foot. I began at Pier 1 on the Embarcadero, meandered through the area around Fisherman’s Wharf to Ghirardelli Square (where I enjoyed a salted caramel sundae thankyouverymuch), and ended up an hour before sunset on the Municipal Pier at Aquatic Park with its sweeping views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. I don’t know how far I walked, but the stars were shining when I finally made my way back on my last legs to the Wharf in search of a taxi. To the driver who rescued me, I am forever grateful. To this fisherman at Pier 7, thanks for the great photo op!

    I’d say this pic is a story of sort. The old man fishing is fishing on the other side of the most glorious bridge, wich represents the most righteous in the world, but he wants more.. he wants more than the best this world can offer us

        I believe every picture tells a story, short or long, you (the one looking at it) just has to look into it and bring it a little to realize its there

      Thanks, Laurie! Nope, there are 45 (though the even numbered are to the right of the Ferry Building at Pier 1), and the Muni Pier is way beyond the that. Probably only a couple of miles walking on a straight line, but with camera in hand, my path was up, down, and all around, and apart from my well-deserved sundae (my late lunch), I never sat down.       Thanks, Karen. It was, but I literally could barely walk by the time I got back to the hotel (bad knees). And then less then 8 hours later, I was up and out for my sunrise shoot that began with a mile hike down to a cove at the base of the Golden Gate! Hike down wasn’t too bad – hike back up was another story 😉

      Thanks so much, Gale! There is an awful lot in the background, but the shallower depth of field helps, I think. I was hoping to catch him “catching a fish” but I’m a bit glad now that I didnt. I like the quietness of his stance 🙂

      Ha, you caught that, Joe 🙂 I spent the five hour plane ride to San Francisco with it and the manual in my lap, along with a few articles about sunrise/sunset shooting. While I haven’t had the time to work through all of them, I’m so darn pleased with the results of the ones I have! Thanks for your comment!
