“Fallen Fireman”

Rest now my fallen brother
Lay soft your suffering back
Rest well and forever
Your memory shall not lack
Rest your tired hands
Wipe clean your weary brow
Rest with St. Florian
Your spirit now endowed
Rest here your breaking heart
We know you gave your all
Rest easy, you’ve done your part
You’ve answered your last call
Rest knowing that in god we sought
Oh lord, watch over another who just fell
Rest assured your troubled thought
As we ring the final bell.

  1. Your work is so beautiful, Joe. Did you happen upon this funeral? (you know I love the back story). There’s always so much symbolism and passion around the firefighting profession

    1. I was walking along Main Street in Bayshore and my original thought was to photograph St. Patricks Church because it really has magnificent architecture but when I got there they were holding this funeral for this firefighter. The white gloves on this chrome valve just caught my attention. I would have taken more images but I felt like I was intruding on their sorrow, so as they say in Italy “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade” (or Limoncello) πŸ™‚

      1. OK…now you’ve done it, I have to counter with something, “REDRUM…” Oh wait—wrong movie… I meant to say something more along the lines of, “If it wasn’t for pizza and other fine Italian foods, there would be no happiness….”
