20130615-untitled shoot

Now I’ll admit that Landscape shots are not what I’m good at. Those nice shots you see on chocolate boxes are great. With mine you’d have to give the chocolates away free. I have a mate who takes the most stunning landscapes. We live in Norway so it can’t be that hard..can it?  Well for me I’ve never cracked the code properly. I’ve read all the hints and tips, all the composition guides, waited for the light to be dramatic, and come home with nothing too exciting.  I think Landscape is just not my thing.

However having said that I do get the occasional shot that is worth a second glance like this one of the Sand buried church in the North of Denmark. Taken in late afternoon with my Nikon D800 and 24-70 lens then tweaked in Silver Efex Pro2.

I’ll just have to keep practicing :0)

    1. The church of St Laurence. Better known to Danes as “Tilsandede Kirke” or Sand buried church. The church has been in existence since the 13th century first recorded mention in 1387.
In 1795 the Danish King Christian VII gave permission for the church to be closed. It could not be protected from the enormous amounts of drifting sand.

The tower itself dates from the 15th century. However it was rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. Following the demolition of the church the tower was left as a landmark for ships at sea and was whitewashed. The last burial in the church graveyard took place in 1810
      and there is more here

  1. You say, “… I’ll admit that Landscape shots are not what I’m good at…. I think Landscape is just not my thing.” Well, I feel the same way about nude shots. I keep asking my wife if she’ll allow me to practice but she says no. How am I supposed to get any better? You, on the other hand, have done a great job with this. Congratulations!

    1. You just have to keep asking. She’ll come around eventually:0). Tell her she can take some shots of you first :0).
      Thanks for the kind words.

  2. Well, you certainly did a great job with this image. Such an interesting structure and I really like how it pops from the screen. Looks very old.
Sometimes, I don’t have the patience for landscape photography – although that is also part of the appeal (just not all the time!!).

    1. Thanks Dave. I used the highlight slider in Silver efex to bring it out a little better. When I printed it A3 size I could count the stones used.

  3. Superb image David 🙂 You know if you just would have posted the image nobody would have ever known this isn’t your strong point, now everybody knows, LOL. Hey look if you could take images like this David I think you already cracked the code, but I’ll take some chocolates too 🙂 Great job.
