Yet another Svalbard landscape. Which shows that I do try to flex my landscape muscles occasionally.I just love the snow cover on the mountains and the remoteness. One day I’m going back.

This is one from August last year. Taken while I was visiting Svalbard. I never have much success with landscapes However, I like how this one looked and have decided to share it with you. It was taken while standing on the tarmac of the airport runway. So real deep thought went into it was just a trail run so to speak.

That was his or her number. Each miner took this token with him each shift and returned it after each one . That way they could check if everyone was out of the mine. If you forgot to deliver your token you were made to walk from the mine back to the town and return the next day. Even in winter. The guide told us you only did this once and never forgot it again.

This shot was taken the farthest north I have even been. Svalbard. This was the view from the abandoned music room at Pyramiden. This was only recently abandoned in the 90’s. 5 Russians live there to take care of the tourists that come. If they didn’t live there the territory would revert to the Norwegian state. The Russians have started to hotel…I wonder how that’s doing now?

Let’s get this out of the way to start with. I have said that I am not a landscape photographer. But just occasionally I take one that makes contact with my “photographic eye.” You know the one. It’s the one you downloaded to your computer and have overlooked until you were looking for something else, and you see this one shot that was right under your nose. This shot for me was one of those.

Sailing towards Pyramiden on Svalbard . Now only around 6 people live there all year around.

I should really have started this small series from Svalbard with this shot it’s the sign at the entrance to Pyramiden with the mountain that gives the place its name in the background.

The deserted mining town of Pyramiden on Svalbard is almost empty. To keep it Russian there has to be people living there so, there are 5, I think and they are the guides. If it was empty then it would revert to being Norwegian.

Another shot from my lightning trip to Pyramiden on Svalbard. The building in the background was the swimming baths. But that’s for another day.
