This image was taken with an iPhone 17 Pro. Luckily this hard drive was replaced with a SSD (Solid State Drive) before it had the chance to fail. It was a very low capacity drive so I thought it might make for interesting subject matter once the cover was removed 😊

      Conventional hard drives still have the edge when it comes to storage space vs cost. My first computer had a 500 megabyte hard drive and I thought that was enough storage to last me forever Alexander 😂 This particular drive in the photo was a 2.5 inch 250 gigabyte Toshiba branded drive that I had pulled out of a 2010 MacBook Pro many years ago and replaced it with an SSD. It’s strange but I remember taking apart an old Seagate 5.25 inch hard drive and it had a metal platter. This Toshiba drive had what seemed to be a ceramic platter because it shattered when I tried to bend it to destroy any data left after formatting it. Times have definitely changed in the 30 years that you mentioned but I remember “the good old days” just like you do 😊.

        Joe,
        When I wrote about size of hard drive 30 years ago I had in mind old IBM stations which occupied pretty big rooms. And the hard drive for this kind of machine were looking like at least 5 units with the size of modern washing machine.
        I am saying it because I was in IT business by that time.
        Hard drives with the size 5.25” and desktop computers in wide use appeared in our life sometimes in the 80th.
        I believe you know that fact with no my explanation.
        Anyway, we are the witnesses of modern technology revolution.

          Those must have been the hard drives with multiple 14 inch platters Alexander. I have never seen one of the original IBM Model 350 disk storage systems but supposedly they were the size of a modern refrigerator with 24 inch platters 😳.
