Contrary to what you might be thinking right now, I am not on the inside looking out! As usual, my wife got into the act by suggesting I take a few shots of the prison off I-95 at Cold Creek Road because “that’s where OJ is!” Anyone outside the United States or younger than myself might have to Google the infamous case to fully understand what she was referring to. I was afraid that any body in the tower might think I was planning someone’s escape as I searched for the best spot from which to capture (capture?) the shot. Still, I ventured out of the car and up against the fence. The place was totally deserted- maybe because the temperature was hovering around 100 degrees even with those glorious clouds present. Anyway, to make a long story short (too late?) I found out when researching ideas for this narrative, that OJ Simpson is not incarcerated here but some 470 miles north at Lovelock Correctional Center in Northern Nevada.
Sweetheart, we are not driving there!

Great shot Emilio! Wow, those moody clouds really do set the scene, all the way down to that vicious fence. What a job though, sitting up there in that tower . . . .

Yeah, gotta love those clouds. But I bet that’s a pretty boring job.

I understand there are those dedicated few who are so committed to a goal that they will sacrifice life, limb, and their own personal freedom to”get the shot”. I, sir, am not one of them!

Thanks, Elina. We really did think that OJ Simpson was there. But I wasn’t disappointed.

Thanks, Omar. I would have thought the place was deserted except there were cars in the parking lot and I saw one lone guard exit the main building as we drove up.

This is an amazing picture which is great for a story like the one you narrated. I looked real hard to see if I could find a face of a guard up on the window of the tower. No such luck. Clouds? Yes, absolutely awesome. Keep them coming.

What can I say Emilio. This is a storong picture The clouds really add a lot of weight to the shot . The tower stands crisp and clean against them. I just hope you are on the outside :0)

Thanks, David. We went out specifically because of the clouds. Had no idea what we would find.

Excellent image, with such a fantastic sky Emilio! Perfect for this kind of subject matter. Reminds me of the prison used in The Walking Dead 🙂 Isn’t OJ still going to various trials, trying to get out? The guy just doesn’t know when to quit.

Thanks, Mike! OJ is up for parole in 2018 according to my research. But he keeps asking for early parole.

Those creepy, ominous clouds (great description Noelle) absolutely make this image! I mean, it just wouldn’t seem quite right to have a photo like this with white puffy clouds, B&W OR color. So glad you’re still on the outside looking in, Emilio. I’m amazed you were allowed to get as close as you did! By the way, tell your wife I’m really liking her 🙂

I definitely agree with you about the clouds. They just seem to make any photo much more appealing. Dramatic. Spooky. As for you liking my wife, too late. She’s all mine.

That’s exactly why we went out that day. Clouds like these make any shot much more interesting. And creepy! Thanks.

It was a strange day to say the least. We were at home on a bright sunny morning when the clouds started to roll in around noon and totally grayed out the sky. We decided to get out to shoot but would have to drive north towards clear sky so that the clouds would come to us. There was no rain until we finished up and started back. Then you couldn’t see where you were driving, it was coming down so hard. About ten or fifteen minutes later, it stopped. It was warm before the downpour, then cooled down in the rain, then started to climb again. the high that day was 99 (100 sounds better, though!) but I’m not sure at exactly what time it reached that high.

It’s hard to believe it was 100 degrees with those clouds!
The photo is great but you are equally as good a story teller 🙂 Love your story AND the comments that follow

Great image Emilio 🙂 I didn’t know OJ was still incarcerated, I thought he was on a golf course in Florida looking for his wife’s killer. You are lucky they didn’t start firing rubber bullets at you, LOL. Really nice job on this image.

Do they really use rubber bullets? Or is that what they want you to believe?
