Brutalist Barbican

Black And White Photography, Patti, Photography

Barbican London

The Barbican, a City of London housing complex with the largest performing arts centre in Europe built from the rubble of WWII bombing.

Through the maze of leading lines we eventually arrived at the photographic exhibition curated by Martin Parr – Strange and Familiar Britain as viewed by foreigners from the 1930’s through to today.

An impressive list of foreigners, an absolute must see!

I understand your feelings about the space and the location but I also have to say how much I enjoy it there – the landscaping and green spaces soften the hard lines and offer up so many corners and spreads of tranquillity. A great space to explore and investigate the peeling layers of London’s rich history.

Hope you get to see the exhibit!

Post war was not a great time for London architecture was it, and wow on living here in NY from London. Perhaps I felt comfortable there because it was so quiet, the grass was green, the daffodils were out and the big crowds were all in other parts of London.
