My wife and I have a habit of just getting in the car and driving. We call it being “spont” – short hand for spontaneous. One Sunday we ended up at the Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge in the Mojave Desert, approximately 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas NV. It is a wetlands in the middle of the desert. They have unique species and a unique ecology. The Ash Meadows Amargosa pupfish, lives in these waters that warm up to 92 degrees and the pupfish can survive in water only a half-inch deep. They survive in all sorts of difficult conditions, but ultimately they still need water.

We’ve been pretty lucky with our spont trips. Except last weekend. Not one photo and a fall that laid me up for almost a week!

Love this photo. A lot different to the tracks I shot that run through the centre of our CBD.

Thanks, Raewyn. But actually these weren’t tracks. It was an elevated wooden walkway. 🙂

There are quite a few wetlands near by, Joe. I have a tale to tell about our past weekend but no photos. Just got to figure how to present it. Maybe with stock photos!

Love this piece. Really curious atmosphere.

I’m sorry to admit the atmosphere is all contrived. It was a very bright day with a clear blue sky! And a very dull photo! So I started playing! 🙂

Thanks, Thom. We usually get lucky although last weekend was a total loss. My wife says not every trip has to end with photos. But she just doesn’t understand!:)
