August Come Back

SS 1/1000  f 5.6  ISO 200

It’s October, and I love fall, the cooler temperatures, the foliage, the smell in the air, the clouds – all of it…but, I long, from now until March, for the longer days and sunshine.  Do you?  Or, do you embrace the shorter, darker days?

To see this beautiful creature in her natural, colorful state visit my personal blog: Robyn Graham Photography.  Which do you like the better?

  1. Wow, Robyn!! So nicely composed and photographed. Beautiful image! Although winter can provide some great photographic opportunities and can be refreshing in its own way, I’m a big fan of the longer much warmer days!! 🙂

  2. Lovely!
and since you asked, I truly do love all seasons. Right when I am getting weary of one season, the next one shows up. There is just something so lovely about fall though, isn’t there? okay and spring 🙂
(you may see this message twice since I posted it by accident on Joe’s blog)

  3. I’m with Stacy, I love the shorter days, darker! Great image, Robyn, but I want to tell Stacy- winter hours are the best to practice your long exposures. You don’t have to wait till 8:30, 9 pm or even later to get out and shoot light and star trails. By 5 pm it’s dark here. I can get out of work, shoot for an hour or two, and still be home in time for dinner!

  4. The advantage of shorter day is if you want to catch the sunrise you do not need to wake up at 4:30 am to be there at 5:30 and watch a glorious sunrise. You can wake up at 6:30 and be there before sunrise

  5. Wonderful image Robyn and I also enjoy autumn colors, the smell of wood burning stoves and I really don’t mind the shorter days too much. I am really not a hot weather person and if my wife was retired like me I would probably live up in the Adirondack mountain region of NY. Beautiful job on this image 🙂

  6. This is the worst time of year for me. The cold I don’t mind so much…just not enough sunlight. I find the best thing for it is spending time with friends and my dog. (Though I’m considering one of those light therapy lamps. 🙂 )

By the way, the butterfly in your lovely photo is not a monarch but rather a swallowtail, likely the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus).

  7. I feel exactly the same Robyn, I love fall and also the snow in the winter. But the long period of dark and short days, seeing the sun so rarely… it’s too harsh. I need sunlight and wonderful brightness like in your lovely photo – it’s beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 🙂

  8. I’ve always embraced the shorter, darker days, Robyn, but now that I’m enjoying photography, I may find I become frustrated by such conditions. Time will tell. In the meantime, lovely summer-like photo. The butterfly just pops against the softer background!
