Great shot! I think that phrase was way before all the modern fertilizers and new types of seed were around. In Iowa the same thing applies, its waist or shoulder height by the 4th!
Great old saying and image Dan 🙂 I understand the saying in Indiana by the 4th of July is “Waist High And Beyond”, LOL. In any case I love the diagonal corn rows and distant trees. Excellent work.

It is that way too here in MN & WI; I had to hunt a bit for the tradition knee high presentation. This was planted a bit later.
