The Coffee Cup

The Coffee Cup opened in 1994 in the Old Town area of Boulder City Nevada, then relocated in 2003 to a much larger home just down the block, where it still offers breakfast and lunch from 6 am to 2 pm daily. In 2007, The Food Network aired a piece on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” about the place. Today, The Cup employs 4 cooks, 1 prep cook, 2 dishwashers, 6 waitresses, 5 bus girls, and a hostess. All their food is home-made. For Joe, they have The Godfather Omelette with Italian sausage, tomato, olives, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese (Cheddar cheese? Shouldn’t it be mozzarella, provolone, even parmigiano? Well, at least they’re trying!)

This photographer just amazes me. Week after week he posts images that are subtle in their beautiousness!! A delight to witness his growth from tadpole to full blown frog. A real prince!

That’s what I’m saying! 🙂 I love these classic signs, too. We drove out to Kingman AZ (to Route 66) but there were no old signs that I saw. You probably have to travel on that road a ways!

That is the beautiful thing about the mind. It forgets annoyances and minor pains. When we look back at “simpler” times we see them this way, because our mind has forgotten the little pains that went with those times, just as we have them now. Years from now, someone will look back at this moment and think of it’s simplicity and ease. We are curious characters, aren’t we? I think I love retro because I see far more beauty in what is aged, used, tried out, banged up a bit. There’s character in things that have been weathered, including people. There is something lovely about a young face, but there is something deeply moving about an ancient face. Both may have a sparkle in the eye, but the latter has stories that go with it.

Thanks, Laurie. I’m pretty tapped out with photo opps around here. Gotta start traveling soon! We’re going to California this weekend for a couple of days. Hopefully I will have time to explore.

There is so much food on my pc it’s a wonder I can still type. Yeah, the b & w seemed like the only way to go with this. I went back at night hoping to grab a shot when the sign was lit but no luck. They’re only open till 2 in the afternoon. Doesn’t make sense to have lights on your sign if you’re not going to use them.
