Just Drivin’ By … in Black & White

Each time I drive up the dirt road to visit my friend Cherie, I look at this barn.  I can’t tell you how often I’ve taken a shot and just how often it didn’t work.  This time, though, the light was right.  Check out the color version on Life on the Bike and Other Fab Things and let me know what you think.

OK, well I prefer the black and white, too. But not for the obvious reason. Not because it’s black and white. But you’ve changed the angle and this one is so much more dramatic. It fits the black and white better. Someone said your color shot seems cheerier and that’s true. It wouldn’t fit the black and white as well. I don’t think!

You are right, it is not the exact some photo. I made this one the monochrome version because the angle seemed better for it. Emilio, thanks for checking out both!

Okay, so I’ve got your color photo opened in one window and the black and white here, and I have to admit I’m having a hard time choosing 🙂 Perhaps my decision is made more difficult because the two photos aren’t exactly the same view? In any event, we’ve had this conversation before about old buildings and light and shadows, and I’m delighted you’ve shared BOTH great versions with us!

Thanks for checking out both images, Stacy. You are right that it is not just the absence of color that makes the scene so different, but the angle of the shot. Not the best way to ask folks to do a head to head comparison!

Two weeks later and I’m just realizing that I missed responding to comments! Thanks for yours and for pointing out what always attractes me to this old outbuilding. It is nestled in there and as I drive the hill it slowly begins to show itself.

Two weeks later and I am just seeing several comments, Mike. Thanks so much for yours and yes! Outbuildings, barns, and sheds do make such great subjects! and I’m lucky enough to have a bunch nearby 🙂
