Richmond Revisited-Again

Richmond Revisited © Steven Willard

At my own blog http://stevenwillardimages.wordpress.com I recently posted a photograph that I mined from images taken last December. In that post I took the opportunity to walk through the basic steps used to arrive at the final color image. Here is the monochrome rendering. Much as I like black and white, this is one instance where I prefer the color, but it is interesting-at least to me-how it holds up to the conversion, and how the two versions are dependent on different aspects of the image. I may print them both and hang them side by side just as an exercise.

Rue Chanoinesse

Rue Chanoinesse, Paris, France

Another trip down Paris memory lane. Rue Chanoinesse is a welcome respite from the tourist-packed Notre Dame, only a block away but feeling worlds apart. We stumbled upon it after enjoying some time in a cafe overlooking the Pont Saint-Louis and Notre Dame.

Watching

Couple views Santa Monica Beach from the pier.

The beginning of March brought a trip to southern California and a return to Santa Monica Pier. Arguably cooler than my summer trip, hardy souls still populated the beach while others were content to simply enjoy the scenery and storm-like clouds from afar.

It’s amazing the life post-processing can bring to old jpeg files. I took this photo in 2010 with my Nikon D90 and kit lens, before I knew anything about photography (can we talk about cutting off the steeple?). But as I worked on it, Paris came alive before my eyes. And I was transported to the cafe where we spent a wonderful mid-afternoon break people-watching against the backdrop of Pont Saint-Louis and Notre Dame. J’adore Paris!

Waiting for the elevator, I just had to capture this stunning view of the Brooklyn Bridge (right) and the Manhattan Bridge (left) spanning the East River to connect Lower Manhattan to Brooklyn.
