I studied photo history with Beaumont Newhall in the early 80s. Newhall was great friends with Ansel Adams and told wonderful stories about Adams and other well known photographers. I still have a view camera and a darkroom. It’s been a few years since I used the view camera and I’m using my darkroom for my music studio more than a darkroom these days.
How lucky are you to have studied with Newhall and heard his stories about Ansel. His book, The History of Photography, is on my shelf. With digital, it’s hard to imagine going back into the dark room these days, but I bet it would be fun to try again. Thanks for sharing about your experience, Timothy.
A la Ansel Adams.
