In Gloucester, MA every year we have a schooner festival. It’s a unique experience and I am lucky enough to be able to climb on board one of them whenever I want. This year I chose to shoot only in B&W mode on my Leica with my father’s old Leica/Schneider 21mm Super Angulon from 1963. In color this lens has a heavy magenta vignette so I tend to use it only in B&W. A couple of years ago I had a CLA done on it and the optics are stunning.
Love the composition on this just like Jane said … awesome image!

Superb image Kirk 🙂 I had the pleasure of attending a Leica event along with fellow contributor Patti last October and took a Leica 240 for a test ride for about 2 hours. They definitely are fine machines although they are a little too rich for my blood. I think the 35mm lens I was using cost more than the camera body. Excellent work.

I was lucky Joe my father was a Leica collector. I auctioned a 1959 50mm Summilux v1. It got me the the M240 and a couple of used lenses. You were using the 35 1.4 Summilux.

Fabulous image, Kirk. It has a wonderful dynamic and exciting composition. I feel like I’m on the schooner!

Thanks Jane – that was just the feeling I was looking for. Since the lens was a 21 the schooner is actually much closer than it looks.
