Apologies to those that may have already seen this shot on my Flickr feed/Blog. However I want to tell you dear reader that. the difference as I see it between analog and digital photography isn’t just the amount of exposures you can take. You then have to put the film in the tank (In total darkness), and develop it, and then scan the negative which has to be hung to dry for five hours. Hopefully the scan was relatively dust free, and you then end up with a scanned shot which looks usable, maybe. I end up wondering why I put myself thought this heartache in the first place. I should just sell my old stuff and go completely digital.

I’ll tell you a secret…
…it’s the sense of achievement when I’ve overcome all the potential stumbling blocks,  and end up with a shot I’m proud of. I can tell you that the negative I made this shot from was far from perfect. I spent a while digitally dodging and burning it, and then printing it out on A3 paper… Magic, pure and simple.

  3. Great image and, like you, I always enjoyed the work that went into creating successful images with film. However, not having easy access to a wet lab has caused me to do most of my work digitally now. But if opportunity allows, my Nikon FM is ready to go.
