I’m not sure what I can say that hasn’t already been said, Patti. I love the laughing smile on the face of the one woman, the curl of smoke, the way she is looking over her shoulder … so much here.
What a homerun for you!!
I’m feeling bad now that I didn’t! Thank you James for your comment – I tend to shoot more now in B & W, it helps me so much more with framing etc, then I can turn it into colour later if I want to. Strangely enough I have also found the more I shoot in B & W, the more I see in B & W before taking any shots.
This is Street Photography. You captured a wonderful scene, the tattoo, the three diffent characters, the cigarette and the whole scene. I would not suprised to find your image in a magazine. Amazing work, Patti.
Well now it’s getting the better of me.. Went and liked at all my Favs on Flickr.. I can’t find it ;( where else would I have seen this? It’s driving me crazy;(
Oh I hate it when things like this happen . . . . that awful devilment of uncertainty 😦 I did post it on Instagram and Tumblr, have had a quick look through Flickr and can’t find it. Once I posted a shot on Instagram and it turned up on Tumblr without me but I was able to trace the link. Grrrrr. Anyhow, you have a good day and see you over on Flickr when I get back there!
Well…I don’t do IG or Eyeem any more , i can’t rest now, I’m running errands, but it’s driving me crazy.. I’m going to continue my search ;)! What is name on Flickr? I’m frptlady .
Originally I thought h were one of my regular contacts who does a lot of NYC street b&w.. But no go ;(.
Ok have a great day 😉
Hello KM and thank you so much for your kind words! As for Flickr, I haven’t posted it there yet – if it’s not too much trouble could you please send me the link? Thank you.
…will send you the photo: me, topless on the Springsteen-Central-Park-Bench with that tattoo on my back.
btw, did that lady know that it was written on her back or was is this elementary school prank where you put the ‘kick me’ sticker on someones back. 🙂
Well, we know there will be long lines around the corner and down the block for that treat, I can’t wait!
Yes, she did know the writing was there and now I’m wishing I had asked more questions i.e. can I come and sit down here with you and pretend I’m cool and thirty years younger, please??? but I was tired, it was a long day and I didn’t want to invade their space anymore than I already had!
Thank you Markus, see you there then we can head out to Brighton Beach and explore little Russia and Coney Island! But you have to keep the sign on your back!
Promised? Cool!!! …yeah, let’s do Coney Island! Promised!!! Looking forward!
…but I guess that I would not attracting any attention in little Russia, because mostly the russians I know walk tattooed and topless anyway. 🙂
This is a brilliant image Patti 🙂 You always seem to be right in the middle of things with your camera, I’m envious. I think you would be a great photojournalist. Great work.
Thank you Jane, they were the coolest girls of the day, sitting where they were away from all the razzamatazz of the nearby Pride Parade and of all the shots I took that day, this was one of the last but somehow it felt like the first, and only, shot of the day.
Talk about the decisive moment! Perfect capture, perfect timing, Patti!

They say colour captures the clothes – b/w captures the soul (or something like that). I always had trouble with b/w but yours are great!
