She’s mostly deaf, losing more of her sight weekly, turning grayer each month. But this soon-to-be 15-year-old miniature pinscher is still my loyal companion. And I love watching her as she curls up and naps in the little spots of light and warmth that she finds around the house. Love you, Brandy, old girl…

Awww, I’m so sorry. They do leave such a big hole in our hearts once gone. I think that’s why I wanted to capture this photo – it will be a wonderful remembrance of one of her favorite things to do. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, Kelly.

She looks like a real sweetie Stacy š Its tough on us when they get older but I’m sure she knows she’s in good hands. Great image, well done.

Thanks, Joe, and she is. And, yes, it’s difficult to watch her age, stumble on the stairs, reach out tentatively with her paw in the dark, not hear us as we come in the door. On the other hand, she can still be feisty when spots the mail truck or another, usually much bigger, dog (her distance vision seems still to be pretty good)! You know those little dogs and their Napoleon complexes š

Amazing, you captured such a sweet and tender moment. I always say there is a world wide conspiracy of pets against humans, they just know all our weak spots. And I am so jealous of the light, I am surrounded by trees.

Ha! They definitely do know our weak spots, LorĆ©. That’s why their so wonderful – they help balance us out! As for the light, my backyard is always bathed in shadows, so I really do love that we get morning sunlight in the front š

Thanks, Raewyn. Even after all these years, sometimes there are moments with her that can still take my breath away over the trust that our animals place in us. I can get that feeling simply holding her, asleep in my arms, or seeing her sleep in the sun, perfectly contented. Incredible feeling…

Lying on the floor next to her? Now that would be a shot! But as I said on your blog, I love it! Light and shadow. I think that’s what photography is all about. And then you go an add a dog! Perfect!

I think I kinda stacked the deck for this photo, Emilio. I mean, how can anyone not love a photo of a dog š But really, thanks for liking it (here and on VisualVenturing)!
